Building a Safety Net for the "Silver-haired": Multi-department Joint Inspection on Fire Safety in Elderly Care Facilities
Recently, the Fenghua District Fire Rescue Brigade collaborated with the Fenghua District Civil Affairs Bureau, the Fenghua District Aging Development Promotion Center, and emergency fire management stations of relevant towns (subdistricts) to conduct a specialized fire safety inspection of elderly care facilities within the jurisdiction. Through a multi-dimensional "health check" the initiative aims to enhance the safety management standards of these institutions and safeguard the well-being of elderly residents.
During the inspection, the team visited 20 elderly care facilities, including the Yuelin Nursing Home and the Sunset Red Leisure Home and so on. They conducted field evaluations, tested equipment, and reviewed documentation, focusing on fire extinguisher availability, unobstructed emergency exits, compliance of electrical wiring, and the implementation of daily management protocols.
Issues such as insufficient fire extinguisher pressure, damaged emergency lights, cluttered evacuation routes, and unclear safety exit signs were identified in some facilities. Inspectors immediately issued rectification orders, urging responsible parties to strictly enforce fire safety measures and eliminate potential hazards.
To raise safety awareness among the elderly, inspectors adopted innovative outreach methods, screening fire safety videos and explaining in local dialect how to handle common risks like "grease fires" and "electrical overloads" and so on.
Moving forward, relevant departments will conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective actions are implemented. Additionally, they will integrate elderly care facilities into a smart fire monitoring platform for real-time risk detection, while organizing regular joint drills to establish a dual-protection system of "human defense + technical defense".
