"Children's Dreams Set Sail for Children's Day": Migrant Workers' Children Experience the Charm of Modern Technologies
In the morning of May 21, the "Spark of Dreams" science outreach project funded by the Fenghua District Association for Science and Technology kicked off at the Yucai Primary School. The day's event, themed "Children's Dreams Set Sail for Children's Day", gave the children an early and special Children's Day gift.
"Class, do you know how an electric fan spins?" In the classroom, the question posed by science instructor Mr. Chen immediately sparked lively discussions among the children. The class adopted a "theory + practice" teaching model: the teacher first used animated videos to vividly explain basic scientific concepts like electric motor principles and energy conversion. Later, the children assembled working mini electric fans using simple motors, battery packs, and plastic blades. "We've customized course packages containing hands-on activities like handheld fans, smart robots, and air conditioner models, simple to operate but rich in scientific principles. Through various formats like tech crafts and introductory science explorations paired with dynamic demonstrations, we hope to bring quality STEM education to more migrant workers' children," explained Chen Hui, head of the “Spark of Dreams” project.
That afternoon, the program continued at the Chenglong School. Ahead of National Science and Technology Workers' Day (May 30) and Children's Day, this special science initiative will visit other schools for migrant workers' children. "Through these courses, we hope children gain scientific knowledge, find joy in learning, and enhance their thinking and hands-on skills," Chen added. The Fenghua District Association for Science and Technology will follow up with year-round science outreach in communities and schools to plant seeds of curiosity in young minds.
